Section 8 is a FREE federal program and it is illegal to sell vouchers. The Waiting List has been closed since January 2001 and no new applications have been taken. Originally, over 12,500 households applied for the program to date, approximately 2,300 remain on the Waiting List. Households are enrolled into the program from the Section 8 Waiting List. In addition, the Housing Authority administers a total of approximately 1,500 vouchers from other housing authorities under the program of “ Portability”. The Glendale Housing Authority is authorized for 1,592 Section 8 Vouchers. The City does not fund the Section 8 program. The Glendale Housing Authority receives funding from HUD on an annual basis to pay for rental assistance subsidies on behalf of lower income clients. Become a Landlord Some of our FSS participants will obtain their first job or a higher paying job, obtain a diploma or higher education degree, or similar goals that will assist the family in obtaining a higher level of economic independence, and in some cases homeownership! The purpose of the FSS Program is to coordinate housing assistance with public and private resources to enable assisted families to achieve a level of self-sufficiency. The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is a voluntary program offered to current participants in the Section 8 HCV Program.
